Bryan Ferry Concert Review
Capital Theatre Cardiff 12th February 1977
by Jonathan Grun, South Wales Argus, February 1977
An evening with Bryan Ferry is an exercise in escapist glamour. When the elegant maestro breezes into town, fans have an opportunity to dress themselves in Ferry-style chic and adopt attitudes so cool many are in danger of frostbite.
So it was in Cardiff when Ferry, sporting a one-button grey suit and pink tie, appeared with all the debonair style of a sophisticated matinee idol.
There is more to Ferry than just a glamorous pose. He delivered the goods musically with the help of eight competent musicians and three energetic singers.
Particularly outstanding in the band was lead guitarist Chris Spedding, who played with the easy assurance of someone who knows he's one of the country's leading musicians.
The show was well paced and climaxed in versions of Ferry favourites that included Love Is The Drug, The In Crowd, The Price Of Love and These Foolish Things.
Older fans who first knewFerry as the driving force behind Roxy Music may now feel that his obsession with image is endangering his musical development. But judging by the ecstatic reception he received from the Cardiff fans, many are obviously still happy to be part of the Ferry in-crowd.
