In recent years, it seemed his son had become more famous. The Shropshire huntmaster Otis Ferry grabbed more headlines for his pro-hunting stunts than his father, Bryan, could manage for his music. But last night, the natural order was restored as the old master showed why he's enjoyed four decades at the top.
Bryan Ferry swept into Birmingham for a sell-out show at the city's Symphony Hall. He was in the form of his life. Ferry started his gig with a storming rendition of I'm In With The In Crowd and you could feel a surge of energy run through the crowd.
The normally sedate confines of the Symphony Hall were transformed when he tore into Let's Stick Together, with fans rising to their feet and dancing in the aisles. Ferry has aged well and last night he danced until he dropped.
Looking dapper in smart clothes, he was well groomed and shook his great mop of hair in time to the music. There were songs from his Roxy Music days, his solo career and plenty from his new album Dylanesque, a tribute to Bob Dylan.
Among the many highlights was Jealous Guy. Bryan Ferry showed he has still got it, even after all these years.
