Bryan Ferry - New Town Video Review

Bryan Ferry: New Town (Virgin Vision, £9.99)

FERRY is just the definitive hoofer. The greatest dancer, partnered splendidly by his strangely hunched trousers. This is the 'Bête Noire ' tour as it went through Europe, as the moody black and white shots of Berlin and other 1992-style places testify. But neither this nor the bizarre new-age exotica of the stage set provides a diversion to rival the sight of Ferry rocking out. He gives us the old favorite, the air-guitar (which we believe he invented) and its cousin the air-bass. Then he progresses to two new dance variations, air-spade and (the best) air-wheelbarrow. Yet he still looks cool. The great man.

There aren't many live vids worth spending 90 minutes looking at. New Town is one of the few including, as it does, a divine swoop through the Ferry/Roxy archives and some cracking current stuff. What's more, you can mute out the sodding lead guitarist which is more than you could do at Wembley. Hurrah.
