Bryan Ferry Puts Dampener on New Roxy Music Album
26 Nov 2009
Bryan Ferry, in an unusually revealing interview with Adrian Thrills in The Daily Mail, has cast doubt upon the long-awaited Roxy Music album ever seeing the light of day.
'I don't think we'll record as Roxy again,' said Ferry 'We went into the studio after the 2001 reunion. We fiddled around a bit, but then I went off to make another solo record.'
If there is a future for Roxy, it would appear to be on stage only.
'It would be great to do some more Roxy Music concerts, although I don't think Eno will be involved. He hasn't been part of the band since 1973, but he and I work together in other capacities.'
At least it would appear that recent collaborations have allowed Ferry to regain his creative mojo.
'As you get older, life becomes busier, but there are still so many possibilities. I'm trying to be as productive as I can. It's been great to get some of my focus back.'
Further news appears in The Times where Ferry once again distances himself from the Roxy project:
"It was overly publicised, when Brian Eno and I went into the studio together, that we were re-forming. We worked together for a few days, weeks maybe, and I decided I didn’t really want to do a Roxy thing. It’s going to be a solo record. Brian plays on a couple of tracks though."
It would seem some subtle rewriting of history is being made here. Back in March 2006 it was Bryan's own website that reported a confirmation of the rumours of a Roxy album that had been circulating for at least a year.
