| Review:I'm
grateful to Melvyn Letts for this personal review Having been to Dublin a week before, the level of excitement was even higher for my visit to the NEC. Not only did I know what was coming I was also in the company of my 2 sons Nathan (14) and Daniel (11)together with my good friend Chris Turpin from Leeds. Driving up from Milton Keynes I could hardly contain myself. The speedo rarely dropping below 90mph (our secret) A packed NEC was treated to an extraordinary show. The nervousness that was evident at times in Dublin was nowhere to be seen and the crowd was certainly more knowledgeable of Roxy's music. However, Mother of Pearl still causes problems at the end! Don't cheer until I tell you to. You are well aware by now from previous reviews of the running order but to hear again Remake /Remodel is such a treat. For that to be followed by Street Life, which was the song that sold me on Roxy all those years ago, is almost too much. Interestingly Street Life also got my lads into Roxy. How about a single release? The band is really together now, not only the main players. Sarah Brown's vocals were much stronger than the previous week, as was the keyboard work of Lucy Wilkins. Chris Spedding plays like he was always there. His solo at the end of My Only Love just gets better and almost stole the show. The highlight of the night however was the replacement of a very flat Avalon with our groups all time favourite "In Every Dream Home a Heartache". I don't know about heartaches, my heart nearly burst when Colin Good introduced the organ sound at the start of the song. Is it? We asked ourselves. Yes it was and we were away with our very best air guitar in Phil's solo. Is there a better end to a show than Editions of You, Virginia Plain, Love is the Drug and Do the Strand. To follow this with For Your Pleasure is like going to heaven, and I must say as the band leaves the stage one by one very emotional (it's my age).Is it really tara? Thank you Roxy for another fabulous night. Now to get my pass for Europe! |
