| Review: - I'm grateful
to Matt Grace for this personal review. FINALLY!!! Roxy Music!!! I've been dying to see these guys for almost 20 years. Their first four albums are some of my all time favorite albums, but I still didn't expect to hear much from these albums...happily, I was WRONG! Lotsa songs from the first four, including four (?!) from "For Your Pleasure". I'll be honest, I took this tour as a cash-in, so I wasn't expecting much...but Roxy delivered...they still are an amazing band, and the coolest thing about them, is that noone else in the WORLD sounds like them...they have a completely unique sound, and for this show they kicked it! They started with a good rollicking version of "Remake Remodel"...half of the audience immediately cheered, the other half (who obviously picked up the group with "Avalon") was sorta "Hunh?". A good version, marred by a rough mix (only song that the mix was wrong...guess it takes a coupla minutes!!!). Next was "Street Life", which I had been humming as I walked into the show, so Karma was mine...a GREAT version! Roxy then cut into an AMAZING version of "Ladytron" with a guitar/sax freak out that really blew me away...they may be older, but they are still Roxy!!! Other great songs they did were "Out of the Blue" (with wonderful violin work), and my personal favorite of theirs "In Every Dream Home a Heartache"...even the latter day stuff was good, with a truly beautiful version of "My Only Love". Bryan Ferry was the consummate host, bowing and seeming to really enjoy playing for the audience. Manzanera, and especially Andy Mackay played their hearts out. It was obvious that this show was for the fans, and they didn't disappoint...I was really impressed with the effort and energy they exuded. It was definitely worth the 3 hour + drive to get to Beantown to check them out... Come back soon guys!!! |
