Review: - I'm grateful to Richard d'Assalenaux for this personal review

After the tragic events of last week, and after a long difficult trip from Los Angeles, my heart wasn't into seeing RM on this night. We arrived in Berlin just three hours before the show. We hurried to Max Schmelling Halle and got in to the show just as the opening act started playing. I didn't catch their name, but they have a great guitarist that wasn't afraid to play a Jimi Hendrix song. The arena is a large cement cavern that has a fair amount of echo. The floor is for standing only.
RM hit the stage at about 9 p.m. full of energy and sounding great. Bryan sounded a little nasal, either due to the sound system, or maybe he had a cold. But his voice was strong and commanding. Paul's powerful drums vibrated the arena like a small earthquake. Phil's guitar was exceptionally good tonight. I appreciated so much his exquisite playing on While My Heart Is Still Beating. Andy's sax and oboe were heightened by the arena echo. There is a new diva on stage tonight. She has a french name, but it is not Yannick. Still she sang the Yannick solo in Avalon. She did a commendable job, but I am so grateful to have heard Yannick in Los Angeles. Chris, Zev,Lucy, Julia, and Colin were all right on.
The arena produced the best sounding concert I have heard so far on the tour. I was doing fine, the audience was wiggling in their seats, subdued like. Then Bryan waltzed on the stage to begin A Song For Europe, and the audience cheered wildly. That's when I lost it. I am not from here, I am a Yank from LA. We have been through so much trauma the last week, that I am numb. When Bryan started singing "Here as I sit at this empty cafe thinking of you", the tears began streaming down my face without control. Now I know that Roxy's songs have touched my soul.
I was so glad to be here tonight, and am so grateful for Roxy Music.
