Let's Stick Together

1976's Let's Stick Together was more of a compilation album rather than a scheduled release, as it rounded up a series of singles, b-sides, EP tracks and oddities, and yet somehow it is still an album that, er, sticks together well...

Let's Stick Together

(Wilbert Harrison)

Wilbert Harrison wrote this song as Let's Work Together, and it was a Number 2 hit in the Uk for legendary boogie blues outfit Canned Heat in 1970. Ferry used an updated title, lyric and melody to produce his stomping version in 1976; one of his biggest hits and a perennial staple of his live outings. Lyrics for Let's Stick Together

Shame, Shame, Shame

(Jimmy Reed)

Jimmy Reed's 12-bar blues workout is interspersed with the refrain from 'Can I Get A Witness' in Ferry's thumping version, with superb guitar work from cohort sessioneer Chris Spedding. Incidentally, this is not the song Shame, Shame, Shame made famous by Shirley and Company, however I understand that Ferry has recorded a version of this song also, as yet unreleased. Lyrics for Shame, Shame, Shame

The Price Of Love

(Don and Phil Everly)

This storming tune was the Everly Brothers last UK Top Ten hit, reaching number 2 in 1965. Ferry's Spedding-driven version gives the song even more inpact with its crashing guitar breaks, dusbin-lid drums and theatrical vocals. Lyrics for The Price Of Love

It's Only Love

(Lennon and McCartney)

This is a faithful-to-the-original cover of Lennon and McCartney's song, down to the George Harrison style guitar solo, augmented by a fine brass arrangement. Lyrics for It's Only Love

You Go To My Head

(Coots / Gillespie)

Ferry has often stated that this was a favourite song of his, but his release was a modernised of the 1930's standard. Ferry's version sounds strangely dated now with its Seventies guitar inserts. I heard a rumour that Ferry re-recorded this song during the As Time Goes By sessions, presumably in authentic Teddy Wilson style, but has never released the new version. Lyrics for You Go To My Head

Heart On My Sleeve

(Gallaher and Lyle)

Ferry's version of the Gallaher and Lyle song appeared around the same time that they were charting with it in 1976. I heard one source say that they had written it with him in mind. Lyrics for Heart On My Sleeve
