About This Release

The Daily Telegraph (Australia, August 17, 2006)

Listen up: album of the week

"Perhaps one of the most astonishing sounds is Dan Kelly and Martha Wainwright doing Bryan Ferry's Slave To Love. Odd song choice, even odder pairing - and yet somehow Kelly's falsettos and Wainwright's bizarre warbling makes it rather captivating."

RocKwiz, the illustrious music quiz show recorded live in Melbourne's Gershwin Room at The Esplanade Hotel, is releasing, 'Two For The Show', a CD and a DVD of the show's duets on 5th August through Liberation Records.

For those who may not have seen Australian TV Channel SBS's flagship entertainment program, RocKwiz explores the weird and wonderful world of rock and roll and is hosted by Julia Zemiro, adjudicated by Brian Nankervis, and has scores held aloft by Dugald the handsome roadie. Two contestants on each team are audience members who have proved their rock brain credentials in a pre-show quiz. Two singers, emerging from behind plush velvet curtains, perform a song each and join the fun when they are correctly identified from a set of cryptic clues. The game proceeds with four rounds of questions and answers and climaxes with the two singers performing a duet, backed by the superbly talented RocKwiz Orkestra.

Artists such as Tim Rogers and Rebecca Barnard, Jimmy and Mahalia Barnes, Chrissy Amphlett and Chris Cheney, Tex Perkins and Deborah Conway, and Angry Anderson and Sarah McLeod have all appeared performing well known covers together.

The DVD 'Two For The Show' features all 29 live duets recorded between November 2004 and December 2005, and has extras including introductory comments by Julia, Brian, and the Orkestra. Some rather special surprises are also included. The CD features a selection of the best 19 of the duets.

Martha Wainwright is the sister of Rufus Wainwright who supported Roxy Music on their 2001 US tour.

I'm grateful to Roxyrama contributor Chriss Garratt for bringing this to my attention.
