c. 1956 The teenage Ferry wins tickets to see Bill Haley and the Comets at the Empire Theatre, Sunderland in a Radio Luxembourg contest. Ferry was exposed to music from an early age by his Aunt Ethel, who helped fire his interest in standards and Jazz, influencing his later career.

Ferry enrols at Newcastle University to study Fine Art under noted British artist Richard Hamilton
1965/1966 Ferry joins 'The Gas Board' a University R 'n' B band. Band also includes future Roxy bassist to be Graham Simpson, and future film director Mike 'Leaving Las Vegas' Figgis. No known recordings.

Ferry holds a two week exhibition of his paintings at Dunelm House, Durham, County Durham, England, showing daily between 3PM and 5PM.
Ferry gains 2:2 Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts, and moves to London
1969 Ferry works in ceramics, and holds two exhibitions of his work in London. Also works as a part-time teacher, antques restorer and van driver.
